Hence, she has a very limited belief in herself and her capabilities.

This stems from the way her family treats her-she views herself from the lens of her family members, who often humiliate her and berate her. Shashi constantly looks for external validation as it helps her feel secure and seems to be the only way she assesses her self-worth. Toward the end of the scene, Shashi looks a bit dejected but she nonetheless seeks validation from her family members and hardly ever confronts them by articulating how their spiteful behaviour affects her mentally. Instead, Shashi’s daughter makes fun of Shashi’s pronunciation of an English word, and her husband joins in on the joke. Despite all that she does, there isn’t any depiction of gratitude from her family members. She makes four or five different dishes to suit the dietary requirements and taste buds of her husband, her kids, and her mother-in-law. When we first meet Shashi (played by Sridevi) in the opening credits of English Vinglish, she’s catering to the early morning needs of all of her family members. In this essay, I will argue that English Vinglish, unlike what most reviews said, doesn’t just peddle patriarchy, but also tries to push women to be better trained and learned only to serve their family. But far from being a film about a woman finding freedom through education and life-changing experiences, the film turns out to be a primer in new-age conformity for housewives in twenty-first-century India. Through the journey of a married, homely Indian woman’s quest to learn English after her circumstances force her to be alone in US for two weeks, we get to experience the unique challenges faced by someone who is not only linguistically limited, but also culturally inept at navigating the multicultural environment of New York (representing the outer world forbidden to women). Gauri Shinde as a director, was very rigorous present it in a smart way, which is mostly I found in Hollywood movie.English Vinglish (2012) was touted as a film furthering women’s causes with its portrayal of a married woman’s aspirations and her willingness to adapt to a dynamic world by learning English. Will Sashi finish her English course? Which one Sathi choose, Sathis or Laurent? You should find it by yourself by watching this humor-drama movie! Many scenes become my favorites, conversation between Amitabachan and American Immigration officer is one of. Sashi revealed she took an English course and Radha supported her. But Radha found out Sashi walked with Laurent, and asked who was he. She gained confidence and decided to follow the class till the end of the program. He fancy her which was just too visible! Sashi enjoyed the class very much and followed the lesson well. In this course she meet a cute French guy, Laurent, who helped her in the other day. She sign up herself for the program secretly. One day she saw an ad about learning English fluently on 6 weeks! Sashi showed her interest and memorized the number.

With full of happiness meeting her sister and nephew, Radha, she's still bothered about the embarrassment of her daughter and what her husband said. Sashi was afraid because she unable speak English and this is the first time she left her home all by herself. The others family member would joined her later. Sashi asked by his sister to help her prepared her wedding's daughter in US, Sashi willing to help, but the consequence was she must leave by herself. Not only Sapna, her husband, Sathish somehow disregarded her ability as a laddu maker only. Sashi unable talk in English and asked the teacher talked in Hindi, Sapna glared at her and refused talk to her on their way returned home. This the new information to me, in some schools in India, the daily language is English. A very obvious moment how embarrassed her daughter, Sapna, with her was when she should replaced her husband in school meeting (reports day). But one thing which become a family joke all the time was her inability to speak English. She had side job as a laddu maker (Indian traditional cake). This about a good housewife who was very loyal and serve her family entirely. This is not about romance between two countries, love which separated by time and distance, unapproved love. I know Vinglish was something when I read about the plot.
